What should International Women’s day mean?

When you give women power, you are assuring the progress of humanity. Michaëlle Jean

Women, if the soul of the nation is to be saved, I believe that you must become its soul. Coretta Scott King

The media has a powerful influence over how society views women as well as how women perceive themselves. The Women’s Media Center, founded in 2005 by Jane Fonda, Robin Morgan and Gloria […]

To many of us take for granted the basics, being who we are (women), living where we are and more importantly using our voices to feel and be free.  In many parts of the world women do not have some of the basic things that you and I take for granted.

International Women’s day should mean no more of this timeline.

A MUST VIEW TIMELINE. It means we must speak a global language as women.

We must move past gradual progress to fast forward equality for all.  We must also note the faster women move forward to equality, the better the world becomes for everyone. Therefore let’s aim for equality at every level with more suffrage ahead, however greater courage.

USA: Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”

If we have to measure gender progress, it means there’s much work to do. Should how much progress women made be measured by women or men? World Women 2011-2012. On this International Women’s day, measuring progress should be visible to men and women.

This International Women’s Day mean women cannot do it alone. We need the silent men in our lives to protect and empower women from men who abuse them on national television, radio, in their own homes, schools and churches.

Women’s international day should not be celebrated without women fighting. This day should be celebrated with us demanding parliaments worldwide to include more women.   “Half of USA Congress would be women if we had term limits. With open seats, women are just as likely to win.” Political commentator Melissa Harris-Perry.

Equality Means Business “When solving problems, diverse groups of people outperform others because they become stuck less often than the smart individuals, who tend to think similarly” University of Michigan Professor Scott Page.

This day is about helping women who are fighting to find their voices to freedom. Let’s support our global sister by speaking of their suffrage.  As global sisters, we celebrate this month as our international day.  Everyday matters, however, it should not be about days. The seconds you live, what you do for those who made our voices today possible, and wish to only make it heard globally tomorrow for our generation and next, means the work start with all of us.
